The more I travel the more I see the huge need for owners to become involved in understanding the horse's hoof. It is my mission to encourage horse owners to start taking more of an interest in understanding the horse's hoof as an essential part of its well-being and performance.

Did you know that 90% of lameness in horses is hoof related?
Most gait problems and back strain problems stem from incorrect trimming and incorrect shoeing that should have been corrected, simply by correctly balancing the hoof.

My concern is that the basic principles of horseshoeing are being lost, that there are too many variables in horseshoeing standards and not enough is understood about how to achieve a correctly balanced hoof.

My 2 day hands-on course covers the basic principles of hoof care, horse shoeing and barefoot trimming, incorporating Assessment, Balance & Correction in relation to shoeing for performance.

I have 50 years of practical experience gathered as a competitor, colt breaker, farrier and problem solver.

I have spent the last 5 years teaching around Australia. Each year the number of courses has doubled from referrals and demand for annual courses. In the last 6 months I have already completed 32 courses in 3 states and covered 15,000Km. Our Great Australian Outback has a great bush telegraph system of referral!

The aim of the course is to give participants (with varying degrees of experience) the basic knowledge of the correct principles of horseshoeing, and thus be able to assist the Farrier in enhancing the natural athletic abilities of their horse. All levels of ability will benefit from this course, whether you have never before picked up a hoof, or if you have been shoeing for 30 years.

For the working Farrier, this course is life changing - it enables the assessment of hoof problems to be made more accurately with more reliable outcomes which results in greater job satisfaction, greater income and the ability to build up a strong client base from recommendations and referrals.

During 2008 I will be changing my teaching schedule and I plan to run many courses from Oakbank SA.
I will be running:

  • 1 day starter courses for Beginners - please see Course Dates
  • Follow-up 2 day courses for Beginners and people with some previous experience.
  • Intensive 5 day courses for people with extensive prior experience with a view to Accreditation.

I am also available for courses by request anywhere in Australia with a minimum attendance of 10 people hands-on for 2 days plus 4 viewers.

I guarantee my courses - Your money back if your not completely satisfied!
