of the farrier's working day.
With 49 years of hands-on experience with horses, Accredited Master
Farrier David Farmilo takes the reader on an Australia wide tour
of his adventures.
Extracts From David`s Book
Suddenly they announced over the loud-speakers that a young
bloke from Blinman up north had his name drawn out of the hat
for the novice feature ride on the un-ridden Son of Curio, and
would David Farmilo please step out in front of the chutes so
all the twelve thousand or so spectators could meet him.
(From The Colt finds a Filly)
She was about ten paces from success when the bossy gelding decided
that if he couldn't get the oats he would get anything, and took
a good mouthful of the pink dressing gown and ran backwards in
fright with teeth still clamped tight. In the cold of that morning
all the buttons up the front of the gown went off like crackers
and it became obvious the good lady was not prepared for horse
work.
(From Horseman or Horse Lover)
I had a call from a woman one night who had just watched the video.
"I nearly cried I was so upset," she said.
"Yes it's a pretty graphic hoof reconstruction isn't it,
but Melody is fine now," I said.
"No, not Melody," she said, "I was upset about
your hands, you poor, poor man."
(From Hand to Hand)
I spent so much time in Jeune's stable that the minute he saw
me walk in he would lift his foot. He was a beautiful horse, a
real English gentleman. That year Jeune won the Melbourne Cup.
