Farriery Courses
Compiled by David Farmilo (Accredited Master Farrier)
To become an accredited or registered Farrier in Australia
generally requires completion of Certificate 3 in Farriery which
is a 3-4 year TAFE course.
However there are no restrictions on anyone trimming
or shoeing horses, or in calling themselves a farrier, or in advertising
for business.
It would be worthwhile for anyone running a business
as a farrier to keep a logbook and business records of all horses
shod, shoeing purchases and financial transactions, as this can
count towards RPL (recognition of prior learning).

Many Outback Cattle Stations now use horses (I
have been teaching Hoof Care on many for the last 6 years) and
many offer Certificate 3 in Agriculture (but not in Farriery),
and some of this could be used as RPL (recognition of prior learning).
